undergraduate reference letter

undergraduate reference letter
What should I do? I require recommendation letters from profs and I’m taking distance classes..?

I don’t know what to do. I graduated from university over 4 years ago, where I got my undergraduate degree. Now I am working and taking distance courses to boost my GPA and to serve as prerequisites to a Master’s Program I’d like to apply for, very badly. Problem is, they require 2 recommendation letters from professors. Not only has it been over 4 years since I graduated, but my university was in another city.
I’ve been working + volunteering and my employers like me there a lot…and I just started my distance university courses.

Any suggestions on what I can do/anyone else been in my shoes? I don’t think you can get distance professors to act as references, no matter how well you do in their class….because you never have actual face-to-face contact with them, right?

Please get back to me, thanks!

If your only interaction with your professors is classwork, then I don’t expect that any professor would be able to give much of a recommendation of you beyond reporting what grade you earned, but I’d be so bold as to make that statement even if you were there in a classroom with the professor.

The Internet and telephone has made it possible to get to know someone without meeting them in person. I’ve got numerous friends I’ve only met over the Internet and have interacted with for years. Even the ones I’ve never met in person are still real people, real friends to me. There have been few surprises when I’ve met Internet friends in person, so I therefore conclude that if your distance learning experience includes real interaction (albeit over a distance) with your professors, that your distant professors can recommend you with clear conscience and sincere intent.

Double check with the admissions folks to verify that they are only interested in letters from professors. An undergraduate applying to continue on into grad school would be hard pressed to come up with a letter of recommendation from anyone but their professors (or from the undergraduate’s Mom), but someone in your position ought to be able to provide recommendations from co-workers or managers at work or at that volunteer position. I’d expect such letters to carry real weight in the admissions process.
