online college scams

online college scams
Anyone ever take legit college online courses ?

I want to help a close friend to get the job he wants, the job requires an Associates degree in any major doesn’t matter which one. But he works full time as has 2 kids and he loves spending time with them and his wife at home so going out to college isn’t something he wants to do. I know there are online courses out there that are legit but I know there are also scams. What’s the best online college that is PROVEN to be legit and doesn’t have any scam complains ? He’s only looking to earn about 8-10 credits per semester (part-time) that way it wont take time away from his family, And when he is doing work doing work he can at least have his kids and wife in his sight whiles he’s home. Please no spam and THANKS A BUNCH for those who helped.

As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:

I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!

online education new york times

online education new york times
Online Diploma fake or real?

I recieved an online diploma from Continental Academy. I’ve used it to see if I can get into a sercurity job and the lady had told me that its not valid within the New York state. She said that I was better off to take the GED then I had called the Board of Education to see if they can help me to find out if the diploma was real. He said that the online diplomas are not real and to dont believe everything what you see on the internet. He also mentions that a lot of people have called him about that with different diplomas but he has never heard of Continental Academy. I also went to a college to see if they can take it and the person said no that many students have came in with the same diploma. The reason why I did it was because of a cousin of mine recieved his diploma and now he has UPS job and hes also going to college at the same time.Any help will be appreciated.

It’s real. Here is the proof. Continental Academy is accredited to the CITA protocol by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Council on Accreditation and School Improvement(SACS-CASI). SACS is an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You can check on Continental’s accreditation at the SACS website at http://www.sacscasi.org/ The actual accreditation listing is at http://www.sacscasi.org/citaschools/Proceedings_Accredited_CITA2_US_SACS_CASI.html
Colleges will accept it as a valid high school diploma.

As far as it being valid in New York, states can be very picky about primary and secondary education. Even though Continental is fully accredited, New York may disapprove it. The best thing to do is to check with the State of New York, State Education Department, Office of Elementary, Middle, Secondary and Continuing Education. If they don’t accept it, just take your GED. I know it seems duplicative, but you should be able to pass it with a little study. If they do accept the Continental diploma, I would explain the situation you had and ask them to send to you a short letter on department letterhead showing that the Education Department accepts the diploma. I would go back to that same lady, reapply for the job and show her the letter. Keep the original though, in case you have to explain it to another person.

The Cricket in Times Square

The Cricket in Times Square

One night, the sounds of New York City–the rumbling of subway trains, thrumming of automobile tires, hooting of horns, howling of brakes, and the babbling of voices–is interrupted by a sound that even Tucker Mouse, a jaded inhabitant of Times Square, has never heard before. Mario, the son of Mama and Papa Bellini, proprietors of the subway-station newsstand, had only heard the sound once. W…
